KOTOWSKI, LEONARD P.
Leonard Peter Kotowski, 91, of Kenosha, died on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Brookside Care Center.
Born in Kenosha on Aug. 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Peter P. and Blanche E. (Bonkosky) Kotowski.
He was a graduate of St. Casimir Grade School and Mary D. Bradford High School. Leonard also attended Kenosha College of Commerce.
Leonard was proud to have enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Dec. 3, 1942, at the age of 17. Leonard served during World War II in the Pacific area, Sixth Marine Division, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 27, 1945. He actively participated in the action against the enemy in Guam, Mariana Islands and Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands; also (Task Force Thirty-One) participating in the initial landing and occupation of the Tokyo Bay area and the capture of HIJMS Nagato.
On Sept. 3, 1949, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Vivian H. Scherr.
He was employed with AMC/Chrysler Motors, retiring in 1986.
Leonard was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the former Saint Casimir Church. He was a lifetime member of the P.L.A.V./Polish Legion of American Veterans George Washington Post #34.
Leonard was an avid fisherman, hunter, bowler and golfer. He was an accomplished woodcarver and his specialty was ducks. Many of his family and friends have at least one duck to remember him by.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vivian Kotowski; his two sons, Lenny (Rita) and David Kotowski; a sister, Marianne Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor C. Hughes and a brother, Ralph J. Kotowski.
Funeral services honoring Leonard’s life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 1919 54th Street. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. A visitation for Leonard will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church would be appreciated.
Leonard’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Brookside Care Center for all the compassion and care they gave him while he was in their care.
