MONTGOMERY, JUNIOR H.
Junior H. Montgomery, 93, Rochester, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at his residence at Wynnfield Crossing.
He was born on July 15, 1923, in Star City, the son of Everett and Lena P. (Kimble) Montgomery. He graduated from Grass Creek High School in 1943. He served with the United States Marine Corps as a Raider during World War II stationed in the South Pacific.
On October 14, 1950, in Fulton, he married Bonnie Mathias. She survives.
Junior started working after high school for the Pennsylvania Railroad, eventually retiring from Conrail as an engineer. He was also a farmer for more than 50 years. A horse enthusiast, he was a member of the Indiana Standardbred Association, where he had been an active owner and trainer in harness racing, and a member of the Fulton County Saddle Club, Fulton United Methodist Church, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, Rochester Moose Lodge and the Logansport Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Montgomery, Rochester; daughters Deborah and husband Mike Lee, Fort Myers, Fla., Jann Williamson, Columbus, Ohio, Kristi and husband Randy Alber, Rochester, and Jill and husband Pat Kelley, Hitchcock, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; special nephews, Marty Zartman, Matt Montgomery and Mark Montgomery, who all helped Junior on the farm; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell Montgomery, Forest “Frosty” Montgomery and Donald Montgomery.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may visit from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Fulton Cemetery.
