HENLEY, MILES C.

Separate fatal accidents in two counties in the Lawton Highway patrol district Sunday helped boost the state’s skyrocketing 1958 traffic fatality toll to 120 deaths, 15 more than at this time last year.

Elsewhere in the state, three persons were killed as a result of traffic crashes Saturday and Sunday near Oklahoma City, Shawnee and Guymon.

Miles Chester Henley, 34, Walters, died at 12:45 a.m. today [March 17, 1958] as a result of internal injuries and facial injuries received about 8 p.m. Sunday when his 1957 Chevrolet overturned five miles south of Walters on SH 5.

Trooper Herbert Barber said the vehicle was traveling south when it failed to make a curve, left the roadway, traveled 360 feet out of control, struck a culvert and overturned several times.

A passenger in the car, Chester Lee Garrison, 20, Walters, was hospitalized at Walters for treatment of facial and head lacerations. His condition was described as serious.

The fatality resulting from the mishap south of Walters was the first traffic death for Cotton County this year.
