HENDERSON, DONALD D.
Donald D. Henderson, 92, of Amarillo died Monday, March 9, 2015.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Tascosa Road Fellowship, 200 Tascosa Road, with Jay Roberson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Don was born Feb. 16, 1923, to Earl Wade Henderson and Nellie Mae Rockwell. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, in the midst of World War II. He served in the South Pacific as a scout and sniper and received a Good Conduct Medal, a Bronze Star Medal, a Purple Heart Medal, a WWII Medal and an Asiatic Service Medal.
Don met the love of his life, Ardith Rae Kimball, in 1946 and they married in 1947. They were married for 58 years.
He was a born again Christian and member of Tascosa Road Fellowship. He was a devoted servant, raised his family in a Christian home, and blessed the lives of many others.
Don enjoyed golfing for many years during and after his retirement from Ingram’s Carpet and Flooring. Many of you may remember Don’s commercials with his trademark “suspenders” and “best of all, we’re friendly.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardith; his parents Earl and Nellie; his sisters Loree, Margaret and Maxine; and a grandson, Aaron.
Survivors include his children, Donald Ray Henderson and wife Vicki, Kim Wade Henderson and wife Kim and Kip Lynn Denson and husband Steve; five grandchildren, Brian Lee Henderson and wife Amber, Kelly Danise Owens and husband Charles, Catherine Lea Jones and husband Trent, Vanessa Nicole Henderson and Clay Alan Raleigh and wife Samantha; his great-grandchildren, Burkleigh Marie Henderson, daughter of the late grandson Aaron Wade Henderson, Aiden Patterson Owens, Emma Rae Owens, Brecken Wade Adams, Brilee Jo Henderson and Kimbal Allen Henderson.
