YURICK, PAUL J.

Paul J. “Pappy” Yurick, 89, of 30 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27 [2013], in the St. Luke’s Miner Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Frances (Solarczyk) Yurick. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25.

He had worked for Western Electric, Allentown, CCA Plastic Plant, Nesquehoning, the Summit Hill Police Department and had retired from the Pa. Turnpike.

Born in Jim Thorpe, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna Yurick.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill. Yurick was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart Medal recipient.

Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Patricia, wife of James Firkal of Hometown, and Sharon, wife of Joseph Porambo, and Cindy, wife of John Kashlak, both of Summit Hill; two sisters, Theresa Marzen of Jim Thorpe and Martha Gerber in New Jersey; a daughter-in-law, Theresa (Shober) Yurick of Summit Hill; nine grandchildren, Pamela (Firkal) Searfoss, Kimberly Firkal, Christina (Kashlak) Meder, Benjamin Porambo, Christopher Porambo, Paul J. Yurick III, Ashley (Yurick) Schirer, Jennifer (Yurick) Getz and Lauren Yurick; two great-grandchildren, Madeline Schirer and Spencer Schirer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Paul J. Jr.; a grandson, Brian Firkal; and three brothers, John, Thomas and Joseph.

Service: Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov 2, Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill; Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill. Military graveside service, parish cemetery, White Street, Summit Hill. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday. Contributions in his name may be made to the family to be used for a charity of their choice.
