WILLIAMS, LESLIE J.
Leslie J. Williams of Newark, DE passed away on May 27, 2007, at home surrounded by his family.
Leslie was born on December 6, 1921, in Clearfield, PA. He lived in Newark since 1966. A World War II combat veteran, he was proud of his service in the First Marine Raider Battalion (Edson’s Raiders) and later the Fourth Marines. He participated in the Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, Okinawa and Guam Campaigns. He retired from Manufacturer’s Appraisal in Philadelphia, PA in 1987 and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Ruth Williams; a son, Alan Williams; a daughter, Sandra Williams; sisters, Eva Roberts and Dorothy Lamp; nephews, James Williams, James Roberts and Mark Lamp; niece, Carol Hanak; grandson, Mark Stafford, granddaughter, Belynda Stafford and a great-granddaughter, Malynda. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ellsworth Williams; his parents, Leslie J., Sr. and Alethia Owens Williams; and his grandmother, Jenny Melinda Selfridge, who raised him.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Alzheimer’s Day Treatment Center at Evergreen I, including Terry Gonzon, as well as Drs. Nancy Lasson, John Reinhardt, Qing Liu and the Odyssey Hospice Staff.
Service and interment will be private.
