WILLIAMS, JOHN H.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Williams, 601 N Knott Street, have received word that their son, Cpl. John Harold Williams, was killed in action on June 11 [1945] while serving with the 6th Marine Division. Overseas just two months, he was on his second tour of duty in the Pacific Theater.
Cpl. Williams returned from 22 months duty on Midway about a year ago, and was stationed at Camp LeJeune, N.C., as an instructor until he returned to overseas duty a short time ago. He was 27 years old on June 2.
The Portland Marine attended Elliott Grade School and Benson High School. He was employed as a ship fitter at the Oregon Shipbuilding Company until his enlistment in the Marines April 17, 1942.
Survivors besides his parents are four sisters; Irene Sutton, Scappoose; Mrs. Pauline Martin, Portland; Mrs. Pearl Kanne, Forest Grove; and Mrs. Ann Stidham, Lorraine, Ohio; a brother, Earl, at sea with the Merchant Marine, and a half-brother, Herbert Waycaster, Live Oak, Cal.
