WELLS, CLIFFORD L.
Clifford L. Wells, 81, of Battle Creek died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Eaton County to Henry L. and Georgia M. (Edson) Wells.
He attended Springfield schools.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific with the Fourth Marine [Regiment] as a private first class with the Marine Raiders and received a Purple Heart.
He was a bricklayer, then he worked at the Unique Tavern – the family business, then at Bert’s Glass Co., and then at B. C. Glass Co. as a glazier for many years before retiring in 1983.
He married Thea V. Becoske. That marriage ended in divorce. Then he married Betty Thompson. She preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Lora A. Wedel. She preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 1998.
He is survived by sons Randy L. Wells of Wallaceburg, Ontario, , and Clifford L. “Pete” Wells Jr. of Battle Creek; daughter Pamela W. Stolen of Lake Orion; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Henry Layton “Hank” Wells of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Harry A. Cole; and sisters Margaret Bradley and Edith Hewitt.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Marshall, he enjoyed spending time with his friends at Angelo’s, and while in school was an outstanding baseball and basketball athlete.
Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel with the Rev. Bruce Kintigh officiating.
Burial: Memorial Park.
