WARDEN, DONALD R.

The wife of Pfc. Warden was informed by the War Department June 24 that her husband, who fought with the 6th Marine Division for Okinawa, an island in the Ryukyu chain, died May 30th [1945] of wounds suffered in action.

Warden, a veteran of military action in the Pacific Ocean area, entered the Marines Feb. 16, 1943, and was assigned for training to Camp Elliott at San Diego, Calif. He was ordered overseas on June 30, 1943. He wore five battle stars on his campaign ribbon, having fought for 60 days with the American forces on Bougainville. He was with the initial assault troops on Guam and Okinawa. He also had the American Theater ribbon and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He leaves his wife, the former Ethel Hogan of Iron Mountain, Mich., a 10-month-old son, Donald R. Warden, whom he had never seen, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warden of Iron Mountain, Mich., five sisters and one brother, Melvin, in the Navy. The widow is the daughter of Mrs. John Stoltz of this city.
