WALTON, CHESTER E.
Chester E. Walton, a 36-year resident of Yucca Valley, died from natural causes June 29, 2012. He was 91 years old.
The son of Edgar Walton and Daisy Martin, he was born May 13, 1921, in St. Louis, Mo.
Chet, as he was called, joined the Marine Corps in 1940 and went to boot camp in San Diego. He served in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima, during World War II.
He continued his service by shipping out to Korea twice and twice again to Vietnam.
He retired in 1971 at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms after 30 years of service.
He lived in Yucca Valley since 1976 and worked for the local school district in the maintenance and custodial field.
He was active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed model ship building, tropical fish and aquariums and maintaining his physical fitness.
Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Gearldine Walton and grandsons Daniel Walton and Thomas Walton.
He is survived by daughter Marjorie Trandem of Yucca Valley, son James Walton, granddaughter Jeana Cribbs of Jacksonville, N.C., and sister Pearl Sanders of Ventura.
Mr. Walton passed away peacefully with his daughter at his side. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
