WALSH, ROBERT J.

MANCHESTER (Special) – Dr. Robert J. Walsh, 42, of South St., Coventry, Manchester’s first oral surgeon, died Saturday [September 21, 1963] at Hartford Hospital after a long illness.

A longtime resident of New Britain, he began the practice of exodantia and oral surgery here in 1951.

He was a past president of the Manchester Dental Association.

He was born In Milford, Aug. 13, 1921, son of John J. and Agatha Hollfelder Walsh, now of New Britain.

He entered the Marine Corps upon graduation from Niagara University and after serving three years in the Pacific Theater was discharged in 1945 as an infantry lieutenant.

He graduated from Georgetown Dental School in 1950 and served a one-year internship at King’s County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was a member of Campbell Council No. 573, Knights of Columbus of Manchester and the Nocturnal Society of St. Maurice’s Church, Bolton.

Besides his parents, he leaves his wife, Jennie Talarski Walsh; two sons, Matthew Walsh and Robert J. Walsh; three daughters, Patricia Walsh, Katrine Walsh and Nancy Walsh, all at home; a brother, John F. Walsh of New Britain; and six sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Heslin, Mrs. Jane Conway and Mrs. Patricia Kiniry, all of New Britain, Miss Virginia Walsh of Worcester, Mass., and Mrs. Marion Riley and Mrs. Rosemary Martin, both of Somers.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, followed by a Solemn Requiem Mass at St. Maurice’s Church, Bolton, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
