WALKER, JAMES O.
James Oliver “Bud” Walker, 93, of Iona, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in Idaho Falls.
Bud was born June 25, 1921, in Idaho Falls to Albert and Amy Lundburg Walker. He attended schools in Idaho Falls, graduating from Iona High School. Bud gave up a full-ride scholarship to the University of Idaho to fight in World War II, where he was a sharpshooter on the Marine Raiders Special Forces team. He earned a Purple Heart, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star for his service.
Bud married Betty Barnes on June 8, 1946, and they made their home in Iona. He volunteered much of his time coaching his sons’ Little League teams. Bud was a founding member of the Iona Lions Club and a volunteer fireman. He worked for 30 years in the heating and air-conditioning business. Bud was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was devoted to his family.
Survivors include his children, Devon (Joan) Walker of Ketchikan, Alaska, Kathy (Bob) Trejos of Moorpark, Calif., Randy (Linda) Walker of Idaho Falls and Robyn Walker of Iona; a brother, Michael D. Walker of Queen Creek, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his wife and his remaining brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Rose Hill Cemetery (east of the canal inside the cemetery) with military rites under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team and the Idaho National Guard. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family immediately following services Thursday at the Stanger Memorial Building on the corner of Rockwood and Main streets in Iona.
