TROWBRIDGE, GEORGE W., JR.
At the Church of the Good Shepherd yesterday, just before the 11 o’clock worship service, a stained glass window was dedicated by Rev. Rush Smith, vicar, to the memory of George W. Trowbridge, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Trowbridge of Field Street, who was killed in action in the Solomon Islands Aug. 7, 1942. Desiring to have a permanent memorial to him, friends and members of the church have contributed without solicitation until the sum reached such proportions that a window was possible. The window is the first on the right hand as one enters the church. The scene of the Christ Child’s visit to the temple at the age of 12 occupies the upper portion and the lower portrays the baptism of Jesus.
George, a private in the Marine Corps, was graduated from West Springfield High School and Massachusetts State College. Enlisting in Jan., 1942, he was sent to Parris Island and later to Quantico. He had a short furlough at home before leaving for the Solomons.
