Butler, Pa. — (UP) – Private Harold John Thompson, of West Sunbury, who would have been eighteen years old last Monday and who had never been home on furlough since his enlistment in the Marine Corps last October 5, has been killed in action [July 17, 1943] in the Southwest Pacific.
The Butler youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson, was the 38th member of the armed forces from Butler County to die in the present war.
A member of a Marine Raider battalion, young Thompson had been in the Pacific combat zone since last January when he completed his basic training.
