THEODORE, PHILIP R.
MANCHESTER – Philip R. Theodore, 89, died Nov. 25, 2011, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Manchester on Dec. 21, 1921, the son of Raco and Magdaline (Anastasas) Theodore.
He was a lifelong resident of the Manchester area, a graduate of Central High School where he was a noted athlete, and New Hampton Prepatory. After a semester at Texas Christian University, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the outbreak of World War II.
After his return from the South Pacific, he became employed by the family firm, R. Theodore Inc., Manchester, purchasing the business in 1977. He remained the owner until 1987.
In addition to being a star football player, he was also a semi-pro boxer and an avid golfer. Mr. Theodore was a past member of Manchester Country Club, the Freemasons and the One Hundred Club of N.H.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Veronica; son Andrew P. Theodore and his wife Sharon of Alexandria, Va.; and a granddaughter, Catherine Theodore.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., Manchester. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
