THATCHER, RICHARD W.

Richard William Thatcher, 79, of Poulsbo died August 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, WA.

He was born July 9, 1923, in Shaw, OR to Pearly “Pat” Granville and Edith Ruth (Getting) Thatcher. He graduated from high school in Salem, OR.

He married Margaret May Allen on Nov. 10, 1945, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1986.

Mr. Thatcher served in the Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant. He participated in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal, the New Georgia operation, the consolidation of the Solomon Islands, the Okinawa operation and the Philippine Islands operation.

He worked at Boeing for 32 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1982.

Mr. Thatcher was an accomplished furniture maker. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son, Patrick A. Thatcher and his wife, Ellen, of Renton; two grandchildren, Karilee L. Hayden and her husband, Brian, of Pensacola, Fla., and Kyle S. Thatcher of Renton; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb D., Sophia K. and Ethan Hayden, all of Pensacola. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Gwelda Hunt.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
