STEVENSON, LAURENCE
Word has been received that the son of Maj. Edward Ford Stevenson and Mrs. Mary Popham Stevenson, Sgt. Laurence Stevenson, USMC, was killed in action June 8 [1945] on Okinawa.
Sergeant Stevenson, a member of the [2nd] Raider Battalion, had been in the South Pacific for the past three years, and had seen action in every major engagement with the Marine Corps.
Major Stevenson was for many years a resident of Plainfield. Until their deaths, his parents lived in W. Seventh St., and later at Hillside and Watchung Aves. In 1939 he married Dr. Suzanne Silvercruys, the noted sculptor, author and lecturer.
