SPILLAN, LAURENCE P., JR.
Memorial services for Pvt. Laurence P. Spillan, Jr., who was killed in action with the Marines November 11 [1942] in the South Pacific, will be held at 9 o’clock tomorrow morning in St. Leo’s Church, 78th St. and Emerald Ave. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Spillan, Sr., 408 Winneconna Pkwy.
The 20-year-old private was a graduate of Leo High School where he played football on its 1940 championship team. Surviving him are his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Oliver, Dorothy, Helen, and Mrs. George Harding; and two brothers, Corp. William D. Spillan, stationed at Fort Baker, Cal., and Paul.
Historian’s note: Laurence Spillan held the rank of private first class when he was KIA at Asmana, Guadalcanal.
