SMITH, EDWARD R.

Services for Edward R. Smith, a Harper Woods police sergeant, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Calcaterra Funeral Home, 16090 E. Seven Mile Mile.

Sgt. Smith, 48, of Harper Woods, died Thursday [November 16, 1972] in St. John Hospital after a long illness.

He joined the Harper Woods police force on a part-time basis in 1953 and became a regular officer on Dec. 31, 1956. He was promoted to sergeant in October, 1971, and received five departmental citations.

Sgt. Smith was a member of the Metropolitan Club and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 102.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline; two daughters, Mrs. William Elsey and Mrs. Thomas Whitcher, and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
