SIMMERS, CHARLES I.
Pfc. Charles Irvin Simmers 20, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Simmers, Waynesboro, R. R. 3, has been killed in action [July 21, 1944] in the Southwest Pacific, according to a telegram to the parents from the Marine Corps.
The telegram did not divulge the date of the young Marine’s death nor indicate where it had occurred.
The young man entered the service July 18, 1942, and trained at Parris Island. He later went to California and fifteen months ago was sent overseas.
He attended the public schools in Washington Township. Prior to his induction he had been employed in Baltimore.
He was a member of Calvary Tabernacle, Waynesboro.
Surviving are his parents and seven brothers and sisters, including a set of twins born while he was overseas. They are Robert, Ralph, David, Esther, Mildred and the twins, Joseph and Josephine.
