SHERIDAN, JOSEPH

Bound Brook—Funeral services for Pvt. Joseph Sheridan, a native of Somerset County, who was killed July 26, 1944, while fighting with the Fourth Marine Regiment on the island of Guam, will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Conroy Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church when a Requiem Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Edward Cregar. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Beverly, N.J. Tripoli Detachment, Marine Corps League, of Dunellen, will conduct services at the grave.

Sheridan, born July 23, 1906, in Somerville, lived in Bound Brook at various periods. Shortly before his enlistment in the Marines in 1942, he was employed by the American Acetylene Company of Middlesex. He also was prominent in community sports.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. M. J. Egan of 125 West End Ave., Somerville; a daughter, Miss Betty Sheridan of Fanwood, and a sister, Mrs. George Shea of Maple St., South Bound Brook.

Historian’s note: Joseph Sheridan held the rank of private first class when he was KIA on Guam.
