SCRUGGS, THOMAS H.
Thomas Hercul Scruggs, 78, an attorney, died of cardiac arrest Saturday, March 10, 2001, at home. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. today and noon Monday at Mark Seepe Funeral Home. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Scruggs was a native Mississippian, born in Iuka on July 1, 1922. He was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in the Carlson Raiders in the [2nd] Marine Raider Battalion, South Pacific, and was wounded in action.
He received his high school diploma through tutoring from Dr. Mitchell. He then attended the University of Alabama for two years, Mississippi College for 2 and a half years and graduated from the Jackson School of Law in 1954. In August of 1954 he passed his State Bar and was admitted to practice.
He was employed by the United Gas Pipe Line Co. and retired as an attorney for United Gas and Pennzoil Co., in July of 1977. He was a member of the State Bar Association and the Hinds County Bar Association.
Survivors include: wife, Annette White Scruggs of Brandon; daughters, Sharon Scruggs of Williamsburg, Va., Pamela Womack of Brandon, Dianne Ainsworth of Brandon, Sandra Campbell of Pittsburgh, Pa.; son, Chuck Watson of Brandon; sister, Natalie Berry of Houston, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
