SCIARRA, JOSEPH
Joseph “Joe” Sciarra passed away peacefully with family at his side on October 8, 2005 in San Francisco at age 84. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Connie. Loving son of the late Antonio and Antonetta Sciarra. Brother of the late John, Victor, Edward, Dante and Beatrice Silva (of SF). He is survived by his brothers Rudolph and Bert; his sisters Margaret Krupa, Elia Viti and Mary Costantino, of Providence, RI. He is survived by his son Anthony; his daughters Lita Hamer, Laura, and son-in-law, Nick Profant; grandchildren, April, Charlie, Joe, Michelle, Joell; and many loving great-grandchildren, godchild, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, friends, and his very special pal Bert Perez. Just after high school, Joe joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and participated in many actions including the Battle of Bloody Ridge at Guadalcanal, where he was wounded while serving with the First Battalion, Company C of Edson’s Raiders. His extraordinary valor and inspiring leadership resulted in promotions to platoon sergeant and later gunnery sergeant. In 1986, after 40 years working at many fine restaurants in the Bay Area, he suffered a severe stroke that forced him to retire as head waiter from the world famous Scomas Restaurant in San Francisco. His passion for the arts caused him to author a book, and screenplay for a novel he called, “The Battle of Little Joe.” Family and friends may attend a Vigil Service Wed, Oct. 12, 7 PM, at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. Private Burial Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA.
