SCHWIRTZ, ROY J.

S/Sgt. Roy Schwirtz, 40, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Schwirtz of Minneapolis, formerly of Norwood, was killed in a one-car accident in California on August 12 [1961]. The accident occurred in Devil’s Gate Pass on Highway 395 near Bridgeport.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McDivitt-Hauge Chapel, 2825 East Lake Street, Minneapolis. Interment will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Sgt. Schwirtz entered the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served during World War II and saw action in the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Glen of Minneapolis and Robert with the U.S. Air Force in France, and a sister, Mrs. Wesley (Dorothy) Wolfe of Minneapolis.
