SCHROEDER, GEORGE J.

George J. Schroeder, 79, of Lakewood, died Tuesday, Nov. 9 [2004], at home. He was born in New York City and had lived in Toms River for more than 10 years before moving to Lakewood 13 years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for more than 20 years before retiring with the rank of staff sergeant. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, in the Korean War, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart award. After his retirement, he was employed at ITT Continental Baking, East Brunswick. He was a member of the AFL-CIO Bakers and Confectionery Workers Union.

His wife, Frances Moran Schroeder, died in 2002. Surviving are two stepsons, Stephen C. Hornik Sr. of Toms River, and Bruce Hornik of Cream Ridge. Upper Freehold Township; two stepdaughters, Patricia Hornik Limozinere of Howell, and Marta Lande Jacobs of Toms River; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visiting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by interment in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
