SAMUELSEN, JOSEPH R.

Pfc. Joseph R. Samuelsen of 29 Knight Court was killed in action on Okinawa May 20 [1945], according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Veronica Dunn Samuelsen. He was 20.

Private Samuelsen took part also in battles on Bougainville, Guam and elsewhere in the Pacific. Born in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of Public School 30, Westerleigh, S. I., and attended James Madison High School. He was employed by the Sullivan Dry Dock and Repair Company before joining the Marines in September, 1942. He went overseas in January, 1943.

Surviving, besides his mother, are his father, Joseph; a brother, Warren, and a sister, Kathryn.

A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Florence and Gerritsen Aves.
