SALMON, JOHN P.

A memorial service for John P. (Bud) Salmon, 48, much-decorated Marine colonel and electrical company executive who died yesterday afternoon [December 13, 1966] after a short illness, will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Park Central Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Serving with the First Raider [Battalion], Col. Salmon was awarded a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts in World War II Pacific campaigns ranging from Tulagi to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. In addition to winning four campaign stars he was also singled out for a special Navy letter of commendation.

He was the commanding officer of the local Marine Reserve VTU 1-15 training unit, and was being considered for elevation to brigadier general in the reserves.

Col. Salmon was vice president of M. H. Salmon Electric, Inc. and the son of Maynard H. Salmon, company founder, and Mary Hawley Salmon. He was educated in Syracuse public schools, attended Cornell University and was graduated from Syracuse University in 1940.

Widely known in local bowling circles, he was an avid fisherman, hunter and sports enthusiast. He was a member of the Park Central Presbyterian Church, the Onondaga Golf and Country Club and the University Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jacqueline Talley Salmon; two sons, Maynard H. Salmon II, and Jeffery T. Salmon; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret S. Link and Mrs. Ann S. Hosmer; his stepmother, Mary Joy Salmon. The family residence is at 845 Ostrom Ave.
