COTTAGE GROVE – A memorial service will be held Feb. 24 for R. Lee Russell of Cottage Grove, who died Feb. 21 [1996] of cancer. He was 71.
Russell was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Rector, Ark., to Alfred and Edna Russell. He received economic and engineering degrees from Michigan State University. A member of the Marine Corps, Russell was a sergeant in Raider…3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, K Co.
He married Barbara Stoneberg in Drain on Oct. 13, 1972.
Russell was a national sales manager of the strapping division for Stanley Works in New Britain, Conn. Locally, he was manager at Springfield Die Casting.
Before moving to Cottage Grove, he lived in Newington, Conn., Atlanta and Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Hillah Shriners, the Scottish Rite and the Eastern Star. He was a lay reader at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Cottage Grove and enjoyed music and writing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Lyn Russell Perkins of Cottage Grove, Kathleen Furniss of Lorane, and Kristeen Stoneberg of Springfield; two sons, Patrick of Salt Lake City, and Mike Hogan of Eugene; and nine grandchildren.
Saturday’s service will be at 2 p.m. at the Cottage Grove Masonic Temple. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements.
