ROUNDS, GEORGE M.
George M. Rounds, Jr., 84, died on Saturday, December 25, [2004] at The Bridge in Lawrenceville, Ga., where he had lived the last three years.
Born in Detroit, Mich., he was raised in nearby Birmingham. He had lived in Westfield for many years before relocating to Chestertown, Md., where he resided from 1992 to 2001.
Prior to retiring in 1990, Mr. Rounds had been a sales representative and sold industrial equipment in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He also was a professor of salesmanship and marketing at Rutgers University in Newark.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1942 and his Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University in 1947.
Between 1942 and 1945, he was a naval aviator in the United States Navy and saw action at Guadalcanal and D-Day.
Mr. Rounds was formerly an usher, deacon and Trustee of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield; Past President of the Westfield Historical Society; Past President of the Westfield Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Rotary Club of Westfield.
Additionally, he was active with Boy Scout Troop No. 172 and Westfield Little League; was Past President of the Chestertown, Md. Rotary Club, and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown.
Surviving are two daughters, Penelope W. Allison of Narberth, Pa. and Helen E. Adamchak of Springfield, Va.; a son, George M. Rounds, 3rd, of Suwanee, Ga.; a sister, Helen Rowan of Greenwich, Conn., and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Rounds will be buried in the Revolutionary Cemetery in Westfield next to his wife, Mary Ann.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, at The Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
