RONDEAU, LAWRENCE W.

Lawrence W. “Larry” Rondeau, 92, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

He was born in Worcester, MA, on January 24, 1922, son of the late William and Anna (Collier) Rondeau. Larry was a World War II Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Marine Corps elite 1st Marine Raider Battalion, participating in many famous battles in the South Pacific region. Larry retired from CT Light and Power as Line Supervisor. After retirement he enjoyed many interests such as photography in which he won many awards. He also loved metal detecting and wood carving with the guys. Or just sitting and soaking up the sunshine.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ora E. (LaPointe) Rondeau; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Marna Rondeau of Nevada, Lou and Val Rondeau of Wisconsin, and Matt and Michele Rondeau of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Dave, Sarah, Kimberly and Christine; five great-grandchildren; and his sister Ollie. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Wednesday, January 28, at 12 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Old Colony Rd., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
