ROKASKI, CHARLES

Charles Rokaski, 73, of Philadelphia and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday [October 20, 1995] at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia. Born on March 4, 1922, in the Hilldale section of Plains Township, he was the son of the late Zigmond and Anna Lasky Rokaski.

He was educated in the Plains Township public school system.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps platoon sergeant serving during World War II in the Southwest Pacific Theater. He was decorated with the Purple Heart Medal. He also was awarded two letters of commendation, one for meritorious duty as a member of Company B of the Second Marine Raider Battalion during the battle of Midway Island, and the other for outstanding service in the Aola Bay defense.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as chief of plant security at the Budd Company, Philadelphia.

He was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre.

He also was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He and his wife, the former Christine Dorzinsky, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in July.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marine Lance Corporal Mark Charles, brother, Albert Javage; sisters, Jennie Pupa and Nellie Krutulis.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Michael Lee, Philadelphia; two granddaughters; sister, Mrs. Stella Ritter, Hilldale; brother, Peter Javage, Alexandria, Va; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home Inc., 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with Requiem services at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral. The Very Rev. Joseph Martin, pastor will officiate.
Interment will be in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cemetery, Plains Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

A Parastas service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
