ROGAL, WILLIAM W.
William W. Rogal, a Marine, attorney and author died suddenly on July 16, 2012. Mr. Rogal was born on June 21, 1922 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. On completing high school, Mr. Rogal enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in World War II with both the 5th and 2nd Marine Divisions. Bill participated in campaigns on Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. In addition to being awarded two Purple Hearts, Bill earned the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for saving a downed pilot. Bill chronicled his wartime experiences in his 2010 book “Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Beyond: A Mud Marine’s Memoir of the Pacific Island War.”
William Rogal graduated from the George Washington University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in February 1951, joining the firm of Crouch and Crouch. He then accepted a position with the Federal Trade Commission working in Chicago. Returning to the Washington Headquarters, Bill became the Attorney in Charge of the Washington Field Office. He was then promoted to Assistant Director of the Bureau of Deceptive Practices. Seeking new challenges, William Rogal joined the law firm of Dow, Lohnes and Albertson, practicing telecommunications law. After a few years he formed a private practice, Rogal and Sloan, serving major clients in the areas of promotional games to retailers. Mr. Rogal also served as General Counsel to the American Advertising Federation. An Additional major client was the Direct Selling Association, serving as the Administrator of the Association’s Code of Ethics.
Mr. Rogal retired from the practice of law in 1997 and consulted with international organizations. Additionally, he was the founder and Charter Member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Annandale, Virginia.
William Rogal resided with his wife Pearl in Annandale, Virginia and Rehoboth Beach, Maryland.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Pearl.
Viewing will be at the Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd. Springfield, Virginia 22151, on Sunday July 22 from 5 to 7 PM. And at Hope Lutheran Church on Monday July 23 from 10 to 11 AM. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 23 at 11 AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 4604 Ravensworth Road, Annandale, Virginia 22003. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Hope Lutheran Church. Information on internment will follow.
