RIX, JOHN B., JR.

John Burton Rix, Jr. died on August 29, 2006 in Gresham, Oregon. He was born March 16, 1926 in Lovelock, Nevada, the son of John Burton Rix, Sr. and Ellen (Holmstrom) Rix. A 1941 graduate of Pershing County High, he entered the University of Utah with a football scholarship. The day following Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Marines and served in Carlson’s Raiders at Midway, Guadalcanal and Bougainville. After the war, he earned a degree at Heald Engineering College, San Francisco, and practiced architecture in California and Nevada, and then with the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Portland, Oregon until his retirement in 1985.

He is survived by his brother, Robert Rix (Cora), South San Francisco; son, John Burton Rix III (Kelly), Sparks, NV; daughter, Karen Gash (Roger), Washoe Valley, NV by previous marriage to Edna Brettman) Rix; also survived by his wife of forty years, Edna (Hurup) Rix; stepson, Thomas Huntford (Linda), Springfield, OR; daughter, Rebecca (Rix) Anderson (Eric), New Haven, CT; grandchildren, Erin (Rix) Miller, Sparks; Caille (Gash) Pfister, Shasta, CA; Linda Gash, Elko; and great-grandson, Mykel Miller.
