PRESTON, GEORGE L.

CRYSTAL LAKE – George L. Preston, 74, of Crystal Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 1995, at his home.

He was born in Chicago, the son of Herbert and Lillian (Phillips) Preston. On Sept. 7, 1946, in Chicago, he married Dolores Harp.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in World War II with Carlson’s Raiders.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Raider Association. He also belonged to the Crystal Lake Anglers Club.

Mr. Preston is survived by his wife, Dolores Preston of Crystal Lake; three daughters, Mary Ellen (Mark) Eckel of Crystal Lake, Patricia Preston of Goldsboro, N.C., and Nancy (Jim) Birr of Woodstock; two sons, Peter (Emily) Preston of Crystal Lake and Michael Preston of Crystal Lake; nine grandchildren, Amy, Peter and Allison Preston, Sarah, Ellen and Michael Eckel, Jeffrey and Mark Combs, and Catherine Birr; two sisters, Jane (Casey) Silewicz of Petaluma, Calif., and Patricia (Richard) Grass of Carpentersville; and a brother, Robert (Helen) Preston of McLean, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy, and a brother, Michael.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Querhammer Funeral Home in Crysatal Lake.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Crystal Lake.
