POARCHE, ROBERT E.

Sgt. Robert Poarche, Marine from San Anselmo, was killed in action at Iwo Jima on March 3 [1945] was the sad news received by Mrs. Robert Bassett by telegram Tuesday.

A former member of the famous Carlson Raiders with four years’ service in the Marines, he was in action at Makin, Midway, Guadalcanal and Bougainville. He was serving with the Fifth Marine [Division] when killed.

He was a graduate of Tamalpais High School, entering active duty November, 1940.
