PHEMISTER, EDWARD E.

Mrs. F. Dillon Phemister, 203 South Marion Street, received a telegram from the U.S. Marine Corps stating that Private First Class Edward E. Phemister had been killed in action in the Mariana Islands. Pfc. Phemister’s father is serving in the Pacific Theater with the SeaBees. The telegram is as follows:

“Deeply regret to inform you report just received states your son, Private First Class Edward E. Phemister, U.S.M.C.R., previously reported missing in action, was killed in action on 26 July, 1944 at Guam Island, Mariana Islands in the performance of his duty and service of his country. Report states remains interred in grave 16, row 7, plot C, Army, Navy and Marine Corps Cemetery, Guam Island, Mariana Islands.

“To prevent possible aid to our enemies do not divulge the name of his ship or station. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. Letter follows.
