PEPPER, WILLIAM E.
William E. Pepper of Benton, 73, an employee of Southern Natural Gas Co. for 36 years, died Sunday, July 17 [1994], following complications from surgery at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial followed in Concord Presbyterian Cemetery in Pickens.
Mr. Pepper was born in Pickens to the late Dr. and Mrs. Elisha Pepper. After moving to Jackson and graduating from Central High School, he returned to Pickens in 1939 and began employment with Southern Natural Gas Co.
Following a transfer to Yazoo City, he moved to Benton in 1963 where he was a member of Benton United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir.
Mr. Pepper served in the Marine Corps and was a member of the [3rd] Raider Battalion during World War II.
He loved hunting and fishing and storytelling.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; a daughter, Bettye Pepper of Dallas; two sons, Marvin D. Pepper of Madison and Fred B. Pepper of Jackson; a brother, Jed Pepper of Pickens and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James.
