We are sad to announce the passing of Raider Salvatore Nania

On March 10, 2025, Salvatore shook off his earthly bonds and joined his beloved family in heaven. At 101, he became the oldest Nania in our family history. He was a WWII Marine Raider who made five Pacific Landings. As a civilian, he worked as a professional heavyweight boxing trainer and for the VA Hospital in Albany, NY, until he retired.

He loved to “shoot the breeze” with folks, the NY Yankees, apple pie, cookies, ice cream, dancing, and wine, but perhaps not always in that order.

My heart is lightened by knowing he is with his beautiful wife, Lena, who passed away in 2015. Despite his dementia, when all else was forgotten, he knew her name and missed her every day. Their love story is one of the greatest I have ever known. They were devoted to each other for more than 60 years. In my thoughts, they are dancing with heaven’s greatest big band…led, of course, by Frank Sinatra.

Sal is survived by his son John, daughter-in-law Sienna, grandsons Ian and Max, and Max’s wife Brittani.

A Sal-A-Bration of Life took place at the Nania Home in Omaha on Sunday, March 16.

Godspeed Sal.

Please raise a glass today for him.
