NEWMAN, WILLIAM H., JR.

William H. Newman Jr., 69, of Sewckley, Pa., formerly of Asbury Park, died Monday [September 7, 1992] at Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was the owner and funeral director of the Dallas S. Irvine Funeral Service, Sewickley. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, serving with the [Second] Marine Raider [Battalion] also known as “Carlson’s Raiders.” He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Sewickley, the National Selected Morticians Association, the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3372, American Legion Post 4, and was past president of the Kiwanis and the S.O.I., and Knights of Columbus of Sewickley. He was a graduate of Monmouth College, West Long Branch, and a 1949 graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia. Mr. Newman was born in Asbury Park and lived in Sewickley for 40 years.

His son, Scott Wendeline Newman, died in 1959. Surviving are his wife, Jane Paisley Newman; two brothers, James R. Newman Sr., Whiting, Manchester Township, and Robert S. Newman, Elberon, Long Branch; and a sister, Katherine Specter, Wanamassa, Ocean Township. Dallas S. Irvine Funeral Home, Sewickley, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
