NEWBERRY, JOHN B.

John B. Newberry, Springfield, died early Friday morning, July 21, 1995, in Americana Fremont Healthcare Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Strafford to Dolly Ethel and Sterling Price Newberry. He served as a combat sergeant in the Third Marine Raider Battalion during the war in the Pacific. He was a well-known criminal defense attorney in Springfield and worked both as city attorney and city manager during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Joyce Newberry; sons, James W. and Daniel Newberry; daughters, Stephanie Johnson and Janice Newberry; grandchildren, Chelsea and Ryan Newberry, Steve and Jeremy Landis, Ethan and Rosalie Newberry, Jessie Johnson and August and Skyler Newberry; brothers and sisters, Bertha Sue Davidson, Sterling Newberry, Mildred Williams, and James and Steve Newberry; and many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by sons, John G. and William Newberry.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 1995, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with private graveside services in Danforth Cemetery.

Friends may call at their convenience after noon today in the funeral home.
