NEVILLE, WILLIAM H., JR.

PASSAIC TWP. – A 57-year-old Millington father died last Thursday [July 1, 1982] from a heart attack he suffered while watching his son being taken away in an ambulance following a motorcycle accident.

William H. Neville Jr., 41 Rolling Hill Drive, was pronounced dead on arrival at Overlook Hospital less than an hour after his son, Eric, was injured when he drove his motorcycle into a passenger car turning left of Valley Rood onto Greenwood Drive.

According to police reports, the accident took place around 6:45 p.m. as Eric Neville’s motorcycle struck the rear of a car operated by Judith Freuno, 64 Circle Drive, Millington.

Two witnesses of the accident said he was attempting to pass Freuno’s vehicle and two other cars stopped behind it.

While Millington First Aid Squad members prepared to take the injured motorcyclist to the hospital for treatment of cuts and abrasions, his father suffered the heart attack at the scene and was also rushed to Overlook. First aid workers were met by the Medic II team from Overlook along Valley Road in Gillette but Neville died at 7:35 p.m. on route to the hospital.

Born in New York City, Neville lived in Chatham Township for 11 years before moving to Millington 17 years ago.

He was the owner of the Royal Lawn Company of Berkeley Heights and Scotch Plains, and the Royal Sprinkler Services Co. of Morris County.

Neville served in the Marines during World War II with the Carlson Raider unit and was a member of the Joseph J. Gardner Detachment Marine Corps League of Plainfield.

He was also a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Morristown.

Surviving are his wife, Olga D. Neville; sons William H. III of San Diego, Cal., and Eric S. and Lawrence D., both at home; daughter Mrs. Alexis M. Sharp of San Diego, Cal., and a granddaughter.

Funeral arrangements were by the Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Gillette.
