NELSON, JOHN G.

WILLAMINA – John Grover “Pappy” Nelson, 67, died Wednesday [June 17, 1992] in Portland.

He was born in Smithville, Okla.

He married Madeline L. Smith on Aug. 5, 1954, in Willamina.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Marine Raiders Special Forces. He later worked as a logger, truck driver and mobile home mover.

He also was an ordained minister of the non-denominational Church of Christian Abundance.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Anita Jones of Fort Dick, Calif., and Carolyn Norman of Igo, Calif.; sons, Greg John Nelson and Dale and Darrel Roberts, all of Crescent City, Calif., Mushy Ray of Willamina, and Doug Roberts of Santa Rosa, Calif.; brothers, Marion of Salem and William of Sallisaw, Okla.; and 21 grandchildren.

Memorial services will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Willamina Christian Church. Arrangements are by Adamson’s Sheridan Mortuary.
