NAYLOR, GILLIS B.

VENTURA, Sept. 19—Sgt. Gillis B. Naylor, 27, a resident of Fullerton, was killed [September 18, 1951] when the motorcycle he was riding en route to Camp Cooke crashed into the concrete siding of a railroad overpass here.

Injured was a passenger on the motorcycle, Seaman Homer Crabtree, 22, stationed aboard the USS Curtis in San Diego. He was on his way to San Francisco.

Naylor was a wearer of the Purple Heart with four Oak Leaf Clusters from the Korean conflict. Witnesses said the motorcycle went out of control at high speed and slid 226 feet before hitting the concrete wall.

The sailor was treated for minor injuries.
