MYERS, VERNON R.

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Mr. Vernon Roy Myers, 80, of Lake City, and formerly of LaPorte, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in the Shands at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City.

He was born May 2, 1923, in Ober, Ind., to Henry and Edna (Emigh) Myers, and had lived in Lake City for 20 years, coming from LaPorte.

Mr. Myers was a siding contractor in the construction business. He was a member of the Old Methodist Episcopal Church in Ober, Ind. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and held the rank of field sergeant.

On May 23, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz., he married Mirtus Chafins, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sharie L. of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Deborah K. Wilberg of Walkerton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline “Pat” Segelstrom of LaPorte.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 9 a.m. LaPorte time in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, 4309 S. First St., Lake City, Fla. 32056, with Rev. Charles Knight officiating.
