MULFORD, ROBERT L.

Corp. Robert Mulford, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Mulford of Dyess, was killed in action July 10 [1943] somewhere in the Southwest Pacific war zone.

A Marine Raider, Corporal Mulford was in the “front line” of action when he gave his life for his country.

With the news of his death, his parents learned that he had married a Washington, D.C., girl shortly before he sailed for foreign service.

When she received the news of his death, she immediately came to Dyess to visit his parents, after notifying them of his death and of his marriage.

A message from the War Department to the parents followed soon that received by his bride.

Corporal Mulford was graduated from Dyess High School.

Besides his parents and wife, he leaves a brother, Pfc. Fred R. Mulford, with the Army in Fresno, Calif., and one sister, Miss Charlotte Mulford, a student at Arkansas State Teachers College, Conway.

Corporal Mulford is the second man from Dyess to lose his life since the war started. A member of the Williams family was killed in action more than a year ago.
