MILLER, ROBERT S.

Robert Stanley Miller, July 25, 1921 – August 2, 2004, born to Grace and Harley Miller, Bob attended elementary school in San Jose, CA. He worked as a fireman for Southern Pacific Railroad before entering World War II. Bob served in the 4th Marine Raider Battalion in the South Pacific. Fighting for his country, Bob valiantly received the Purple Heart Medal. Following the war, Bob attended San Jose State University before moving to the East Bay to attend Cal. Following Cal, Bob worked for Contra Costa County as an adult probation supervisor for 32 years, during which time he implemented many new procedures that proved to be successful in his field of work. Bob was an avid bicycle rider, riding from Orinda to Richmond for work and to San Jose to visit family. Following his retirement, Bob became an active part of his grandchildren’s lives by assisting their upbringing through coaching their OYA little league teams and teaching children to read at Mrs. Flagg’s Preschool. He enjoyed reading, studying history, and caring for his three dogs: Prince, Holly and Freddie. Since moving to Orinda in 1957, Bob has become widely known throughout the community by putting the happiness of others before his own. He touched many people in his life and will be loved and missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, his sons, Keith and Kevin, his daughter-in-law, Ingrid, and his grandchildren, Chris, Lauren and Amanda.
