MILLER, CLAUDE W.

Mrs. Audrey Miller, 20-year-old bride of Marine Corp. Claude W. Miller, refused today to believe that her 21-year-old husband is dead, although the Navy Department listed him as killed in action [August 7, 1942] in the Pacific.

Why should she believe it? Hasn’t she his last letter received two months ago at their home at 2526 E. 27th St., in which he told her never to pay any attention to notification that he had been killed in action? That letter and its confident assurance is her guarantee that he’ll come back to her some day.

She and Corporal Miller were married on Jan. 31 in Alexandria, Va., while he was stationed at Quantico. Before his call to active service with the Marine Corps Reserve on Nov. 3 he had been a clerk in a Bank of the Manhattan Company office.

Mrs. Martin had been notified by the Navy Department on Sept. 2 and prostrated with grief, she had been confined to her bed since then. Even last night she was not inclined to speak to reporters, her answers to questions being relayed by a neighbor.

Corporal Miller’s father, George, of 2802 Brown St., is in the Army.
