MICKLAS, ROBERT F.

The body of PFC Robert Francis Micklas, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Micklas, 7 Ford Street, Pittston, will arrive at the Lehigh Valley station, Pittston, Friday at 12:59.

Pittston veterans’ units will escort the body to the home, from where the funeral will be held Saturday at 9, with a requiem mass at 9:30 in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

PFC Micklas was killed in action June 19, 1945, on Okinawa, at the age of 19. He enlisted in the Marines on September 5, 1942 and went overseas [December 17], 1942. He fought on Bougainville, Northern Solomons campaign, Emirau and Guam.

He received the Bronze Star with Combat “V”; Purple Heart with Gold Star; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and World War 2 Victory Medal.

He attended Pittston Township schools and was graduated from St. John’s High School where he starred in football. He was a member of St. John’s Church and its Holy Name Society.

Besides his parents, he leaves these sisters and brothers, Lucille, Paul and Martin, at home, and Mrs. Louis Roman, Pittston, and his grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Heston, Pittston Township. His mother is the former Rena Heston, member of Pittston Township High School faculty.
