MCNUSSEN, NED E.

VILLA GROVE – Ned E. McNussen, 79, of Villa Grove died 5:53 a.m. Sunday [May 27, 2001] in his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in New Covenant Fellowship Church with Pastor Judson Chubbuck officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Joines Funeral Home, Villa Grove. Private burial services will be June 21, 2001, in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials: American Diabetes Association.

Mr. McNussen was born July 9, 1921, in Joppa, the son of George and Goldie Harris McNussen.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1940 and served in World War II and Korea. He was a member of the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion and the 5th Marine Division. He was a combat veteran of campaigns at Midway Island, Makin Atoll, Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Iwo Jima. He retired after 26 years of service.

He was a locomotive engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad and retired after 19 years. His interests included stamp collecting, gardening, reading and playing golf.

He married Margaret Moser April 22, 1944.

Surviving are his wife; sons, David McNussen of Aptos, Calif.; Jon McNussen of Villa Grove; brother, Jack McNussen of Villa Grove; sisters, Florence Netski of Las Vegas, Nev.; Dorothy Marlatt of Villa Grove; two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
