MARITATO, ANTHONY J.
Anthony J. Maritato, age 90 of De Pere passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning October 16, 2012. He was born May 4, 1922 in Racine to the late Frank and Rose Maritato. Anthony served his country during WWII in the Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific with Edson’s Raiders, and was awarded the Purple Heart twice. On January 23, 1953 he married Audrey Zirkelbach in Valparaiso, IN. In 1965 they moved to De Pere, where he worked for over 30 years as a Sales Engineer in the steel industry. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Allouez. Anthony also spent many hours volunteering for the Salvation Army. He looked forward to getting together with his coffee group.
He is survived by his wife Audrey, his son; James (Eva) Maritato, Houston, TX., his two daughters; Carolyn “Carrie” Maritato, De Pere, and Sue (Ken) VanDen Heuvel, Dykesville. Anthony is further survived by his five grandchildren; Dana (Timothea) VanDen Heuvel, Jesica VanDen Heuvel, Adam Maritato, Bryan (Marcy) May, and Howard May. Also surviving are his two great-grandchildren; Sebastian, and Reagan, as well as his siblings; Louis (Mary) Maritato, Mario (Lois) Maritato, Frank (Diane) Maritato, his sister Sylvia Tenuta, and sister in law Mary L. Maritato. Audrey’s family also survives him, Nancy Zirkelbach, David (Barbara) Zirkelbach, and Linda Gonzales.
Anthony was preceded in death by, his brother Ralph Maritato, and brother in law John Tenuta.
Due to the work being done at Resurrection Parish, visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church 220 S. Michigan Street in De Pere. Friends may call after 9am Friday, October 19, 2012 at St. Francis Church until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Full military honors to follow.
